Freedom of expression is the open exchange of ideas without fear of punishment by the state or others. Recently, it has been commonly understood to include all types of expression: books, websites, paintings or other forms of visual art, plays, music, dance, and all other forms of expressive communication. It is not an absolute right in that it is generally only applicable where the purpose of expression does not infringe the human rights of others.
